Thani Maram

The film centers on Chellamma (played by Sathyakala), a poor but fiercely independent woman whose beauty makes her a target of desire and judgment in a harsh, male-dominated society. Her integrity successfully reforms Chinnadurai (played by Vijayan), a notorious local ruffian, into a man of honour. However, Chellamma is tragically deceived by Raju (played by Rajesh), a deceitful cyclist who pretends to be honest but ultimately betrays her. Left pregnant and scorned by the villagers, Chellamma faces social humiliation and isolation.

Chellamma as a single mother faces cruel social exclusion. Chinnadurai, the reformed minor, steps in to protect her from the villagers' scorn and is prepared to accept Chellamma and her child unconditionally. Trusting her original love, Chellamma goes to Raju expecting him to save her. Instead, she discovers that Raju has recently cheated and abandoned yet another woman in the same manner.

In an act of profound self-sacrifice, Chellamma decides to forego her chance at happiness with the loyal Chinnadurai. She dedicates herself to protecting and providing a life for Raju's second victim, thereby choosing to remain independent and solitary—a "Lone Tree"—rather than pursuing her own personal redemption.
