Film poster — Sadurangam

Sadurangam

Sadurangam tells the story of an orthodox Brahmin family, headed by a devoted mother (played by Pandari Bai), focusing on two brothers and their very different paths. Sundaresan (played by Rajinikanth), the eldest, is a sincere and dutiful man, while his younger brother, Ram Kumar (played by Srikanth), is a rebellious and arrogant college student. Through a series of unexpected events—including Ram Kumar's forced marriage to a bold, wealthy girl named Uma (played by Jayachitra) and Sundaresan's marriage to his jealous cousin Meenakshi (played by Prameela)—their lives are turned upside down.

The film becomes a moral chessboard where the "good" brother falls into a life of crime and vice, while the "bad" brother is transformed by his wife's love and efforts into a responsible and loving man. The family, once proud of the eldest son, now sees the younger as its real hope. The family struggles to cope with the dramatic role reversal, leading to a tragic climax and a final act of redemption.
