Pet Pyar Aur Paap
Pet Pyar Aur Paap
Pet Pyar Aur Paap (remake of Pasi) is a social drama that traces the painful journey of Janaki (played by Smita Patil), a young woman crushed under poverty, responsibility, and betrayal. Born into a struggling family with a drunken father, selfish brothers, and a disabled sister, Janaki is forced to abandon the safety of her home when survival becomes impossible. Alongside her friend Sheela (played by Aruna Irani), she scavenges for food and scraps, learning early that hunger is harsher than dignity.
Fate introduces Janaki to Purushottam (played by Raj Babbar), and what begins as compassion quickly turns into love. When her ailing father's demands and her own starvation push her to the edge, Purushottam offers her food, care, and affection—but this lifeline becomes her downfall. Janaki is left pregnant, carrying not just a child but the weight of social condemnation. The shame drives her mother (played by Sulbha Deshpande) to suicide, shattering what remains of the family.
Janaki's faith in love collapses when she discovers that Purushottam is already married with children. Abandoned to bear the consequences alone, she learns that life offers no easy escape—only endurance. The film closes as a haunting reflection on human weakness, where hunger, love, and sin are not choices, but circumstances shared by everyone in different forms.
