Film poster — Pasi

Pasi

Pasi centers on the crushing struggle for survival faced by Muniyandi (played by Delhi Ganesh), a cycle-rickshaw puller, and his large, impoverished family of slum dwellers. Despite their chronic hunger, Muniyandi wastes his meagre income on alcohol, leaving his wife, Valliamma (played by Tambaram Lalitha), to fight for the family's basic needs.

The film focuses on their daughter, Kuppamma (played by Shoba), a young girl burdened with responsibilities far beyond her years. Abandoned by her educated brother and neglected by a drunkard father she earns a meagre living as a ragpicker. Amidst this struggle, she finds warmth and love with Rangan (played by Vijayan), a kind lorry driver, but their physical relationship ends in tragedy. When Kuppamma becomes pregnant and discovers Rangan is already married, her mother commits suicide out of shame. Her dreams collapse as she is left pregnant and alone, facing social stigma and tragedy. Ultimately, Kuppamma dies tragically during childbirth, leaving Rangan and his empathetic wife (played by Jayabarathi) to adopt the orphaned baby as an act of penance for the sins committed against the struggling family.
