Oru Manithan Oru Manaivi

Oru Manithan Oru Manaivi is a social drama that exposes the cost of idleness and the silent heroism of a woman determined to reform her husband. The story follows a hardworking daily-wage food carrier woman Kannamma (played by Sumithra) who marries a man Ranganathan (played by Ashok) unwilling to work or shoulder responsibility. Though she refuses marital intimacy due to his idleness, her affection for him never diminishes. She feeds him, sustains him, and continues to hope that love will transform him.

Ranganathan lives comfortably on timely meals, spends his days in complacent laziness. Determined to make her husband earn and live with self-respect, Kannamma accepts a personal challenge before her maternal uncle Manikam (played by Jaishankar)—to transform her husband into a man society can respect. With skill and quiet courage, she stages situations to protect Ashok's image, even pretending he is employed, while enduring hunger, humiliation, and emotional neglect herself.

As Ranganathan sinks deeper into dependency, Kannamma makes the most painful decision of all—she stops feeding him, choosing shared starvation over enabling his laziness. The struggle takes a fatal toll on her body, but her sacrifice finally pierces Ashok's conscience. Only after her death does he truly awaken, realizing the price she paid to reform him.
