Puthiya Adhyaayam

Puthiya Adhyaayam (remake of Oru Manithan Oru Manaivi) is a social drama that explores the emotional and economic strains within married life. Set against the familiar rhythms of a Kerala household, the film follows Unnikrishnan Nair, a man content to idle away his days playing cards, chess, and writing poetry, indifferent to responsibility or livelihood.

While he drifts through life without purpose, it is his wife Ponnamma who silently carries the weight of the family. Taking up daily-wage work without hesitation, she feeds her husband, sustains the household, and protects his dignity before society — even when he shows no urgency to change. Her love is patient, but not blind.

Determined to make her husband earn and live with self-respect, Ponnamma takes on crushing physical labour and accepts a personal challenge before her maternal uncle (played by Madhu) — to transform her husband into a man society can respect. As financial pressures mount and self-respect begins to erode, Ponnamma makes a firm and painful decision: she refuses to continue enabling his idleness. That turning point shakes Unnikrishnan Nair to his core. Through emotional turmoil and wounded pride, he is finally forced to confront his own failures.
