Samaajamlo Sthree

Samaajamlo Sthree is the story of Karuna (played by Vijayashanthi), an educated but unemployed woman burdened with the responsibility of feeding her younger siblings while her drunkard father wastes his life in alcohol. With the support of a kind-hearted village postmaster, Karuna receives a chance to attend an interview at a soap company in Chennai. She leaves for the city with hope in her heart, accompanied by Mohan (played by Suman), the postmaster's compassionate nephew, who understands her struggles and slowly grows fond of her.

In the city, however, Karuna finds herself trapped in a deeply exploitative environment. The company's lecherous managing director subjects women applicants to degrading scrutiny, while his son, the general manager, also preys on female employees. Pressured by her family's poverty and her father's debts, Karuna is forced to accept the job under harsh conditions. Though gossip and humiliation begin to surround her, Mohan and his more offer shelter and support, even helping bring Karuna's siblings to safety and trying to reform her wayward father.

As Karuna becomes entangled in a cruel system that exploits women's vulnerability in the name of employment, she refuses to surrender her dignity. In a bold final act, she exposes the injustice through a dramatic letter that shocks the company and stirs the conscience of her fellow workers. Their outrage turns into collective protest, forcing the powerful men responsible to confront their wrongdoing. In the end, Karuna stands not merely as one woman fighting for survival, but as the face of countless working women whose dignity is crushed between poverty, power, and male selfishness.
